The following is based on Fallout 4 cut content.
Despite needing the Sole Survivor to trigger his confidence boost, Travis has a post-Confidence Man news announcement about their emergence from Vault 111, as if they had yet to meet. There is a small chance Travis will fight back if one takes the items inside Diamond City Radio, even if the player character is not in Travis's line of sight. If he is used as a temporary companion during Confidence Man he will not leave until the quest is done. After Confidence Man is completed, security officers in Diamond City will comment on how kind the player character is for doing that for him, or just mention how "smooth" he has become. So, I'd just go with what you figure is going to annoy you the least for the remainder of your game. It takes at least one game day after Confidence Man is completed for the change in his tone to activate. Ultimately any choice is going to involve having to listen to something over and over until it becomes tedious and tiresome (see also 'wives'). If visited after Confidence Man, Travis will tell the player character that things with Scarlett did not work out, but he is not too bothered about it. Travis will mention the defeat of the Institute and will say an old friend once said "fight the good fight," the signature line of Three Dog. Thank you to anyone who replies or considers making this. Making the quests infinite would also help with companion affinity. I've had runs where the quests stopped coming in before I could recruit settlements like Nordhagen or Somerville. I'd rather not just disable Preston's quests and tune to Radio Freedom because the normal minutemen quest generation ends after a while. I don't think those options serve any real purpose. The dialogue option would need to be there with and without him as a companion, so replace either "chat" or "relationship" while he's with you and replace "How are you feeling" when he isn't.
Turning in the quests doesn't have to change as long as greeting him doesn't add more. Change a dialogue option to ask "Got anything new for me, Garvey?" At which point a minutemen radiant is guaranteed to generate, up to the maximum of 3. When you talk to Preston after that, he won't automatically start a new quest. When you want to pitch in, tune to Radio Freedom or come talk to me." I would be fine with a silent subtitle, but there may also be enough in his existing script to get the point across. Preston can say something like "We've finally gotten big enough to defend ourselves like we used to. I don't know if this exists already, but I think I have a way to end the Preston Garvey hate: move his mission spam from the greeting to a dialogue option.Īfter retaking the castle, the minutemen should be able to take care of themselves.
